If you are saving up your pocket full of tin for Saturday’s big race, and are looking for an inexpensive place to have some Derby fun the night before, KFC Yum! Center Plaza is the place to be for Derby Eve! The good folks at Louisville’s own Bluegrass Brewing Company are inviting you to celebrate Kentucky's Original Beer at the Derby City Brewfest on Kentucky Oaks Day, May 1st, at the KFC Yum Center Norton Healthcare Plaza.

With 15+ local craft breweries, 60 plus beers and live music from 5 local bands. Co-sponsor Four Roses Bourbon suggests you also try then “trifecta of bourbons.” Kentucky-area brewers will revisit the past as part of the Derby Eve Derby City BrewFest, as they will be serving up their own versions of Kentucky Common – a beer style that was invented in Louisville in the mid 1800s. The historical beer style, which is a light-bodied, dark-colored cream ale, was the beer of choice for most Louisvillians in the late 1800s through Prohibition.

At one point, historians estimate, about 80 percent of the beer consumed in Louisville was Kentucky Common, which then was usually simply referred to as “Common Beer” or “Common Cream Ale.”

Tickets are available HERE. Admission is ten bucks, short beers are two bucks, tall beers six bucks, and Designated Drivers get in for half price.
