Cyclouvia, the popular event showcasing alternative transportation, is returning to Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue on Sunday, October 18, Mayor Greg Fischer announced.

The 3-mile stretch of Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue, from Douglass Boulevard to Broadway, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 2-6 p.m. In addition to opening the streets to non-motorized vehicles, the event will feature yoga in the street from 3-4 p.m., food truck provided by Dragon King’s Daughter, sidewalk sales, music bands and food and drink specials.

“People of all ages love our Cyclouvia events and attendance continues to grow,” said Fischer.  “Streets account for a large part of public property in every city and Cyclouvia lets us repurpose and reimagine these spaces for an afternoon.”

Cyclouvia is Louisville’s Open Streets program, a national initiative designed to encourage more communities to close streets to cars and open them to people. This event marks the fourth time Cyclouvia has taken place on the Bardstown Road/Baxter Avenue corridor and the seventh event overall, with previous events being held on Frankfort Avenue and West Broadway.

Commercial establishments with frontage along the Bardstown Road/Baxter Avenue corridor are encouraged to open their businesses during event hours and engage participants to create an atmosphere that is uniquely Louisville.

During the event, police-assisted vehicular crossings will be in place at Eastern Parkway, Grinstead Drive and Highland Avenue.

TARC detours will occur during the event from 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. For a full list of road detours, visit http://ridetarc.org/Cyclouvia2015/?terms=cyclouvia.
