Monday, October 5th, is the deadline for making a contribution to the 2015 Project Homeless Connect / VA Stand Down campaign to provide foot washing and clean socks for homeless veterans in Louisville.  The Project will need a caring volunteer for each homeless vet, to use a clean washcloth and towel, and to provide a new pair of socks for the veteran to walk away in.

Many veterans experiencing homelessness have problems with their feet, due to diabetes, frostbite, and other results of exposure.  This person-to-person service will provide a clearer examination, and an opportunity to refer veterans with medical needs to volunteer podiatrists.

The Project is hoping to gather 400 new pairs of socks, together with 400 new towels and washcloths, by October 5th

If you would like to make a contribution, please deliver it to the RSVP Office, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 810 Barret Avenue, Room 323 or 327.

The “Stand Down” event will be held on Wednesday, October 7th, from 8:30 a.m., until 3:00 p.m., at the Salvation Army, 911 South Brook Street.

The RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is a federally funded, locally sponsored program for volunteers age 55 and over, serving over 60 locations within Jefferson County, Kentucky.  Members have a wide variety of results-oriented and fun opportunities to choose from.  Members also receive a number of free benefits while on duty.
