With the presidential primaries starting to heat up, the major candidates are all heading to their word processors to grind out tomes for planned book tours, in hopes of launching their 2016 campaigns. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, all have books in the mills or already in print. Hillary Clinton’s book, Hard Choices, is even available on remainder shelves for about ten bucks.
So it comes as no complete surprise that Kentucky’s junior senator, Rand Paul, is releasing his third book today, Taking a Stand: Moving Beyond Partisan Politics to Unite America. His previous efforts, Government Bullies: How Everyday Americans Are Being Harassed, Abused, and Imprisoned by the Feds, and The Tea Party Goes to Washington, are still available, for those who go in for that sort of thing.
In Taking A Stand, Senator Paul talks candidly about his life as a family man, an eye surgeon, and a self- professed “tree hugger” who “embodies the small-town values that form the beating heart of this great country.” Senator Paul calls for changes in the Republican Party, and American politics in general, “in order for us to make America ours again.”
He argues that our immigration system is broken, government entitlements are in the red, healthcare is a mess, and that we've overextended our resources in both our foreign policy and domestic policies and America is less safe for it. Real reform, according to Senator Paul, will mean less of the politics-as-usual Americans have grown tired of, and more of imaginative, fresh solutions rooted in personal responsibility, individual liberty, and the “original values that made this country great.”
Senator Paul addresses hot button issues in such chapters as:
● Washington is Broken: Stories of Back Room Deals and Special Interests
● Fixing Washington: Term Limits, Read the Bills, Downsize DC
● Don't Shoot the Messenger: How to Communicate Ideas of Liberty
● Restoring the Bill of Rights: Civil Liberties in the Age of Terror
● Big Government, Big Business and Big Labor: How the Special Interests Get Together
If you read Taking A Stand, you will discover why Time Magazine calls Rand Paul, "the most interesting man in politics."
You can get a copy of Taking A Stand from Amazon, for about 18 bucks. For the same price, you can pick up a copy at your local Walmart.
Or, for about 40 bucks, you can get a genuine Hardcover First Edition, autographed by the senator, in a “Deluxe Leather Collector's Box,” with a “Custom Certificate of Authenticity.” Your call.
