Bevin Names Brigadier General Stephen R. Hogan Adjutant General

Today, Governor-Elect Matt Bevin announced the appointment of Brigadier General Stephen R. Hogan as the 52nd Adjutant General of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. General Hogan assumes the position with a decorated career of more than thirty years in service to the Nation and the Commonwealth.

“It is my pleasure to name Brigadier General Stephen R. Hogan as Adjutant General for the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Governor-Elect Bevin. “We owe our freedom and safety to the men and women of our military. General Hogan has served our country and our Commonwealth with honor and distinction and understands first hand, the critical importance of the citizen soldier. I have absolute confidence that he will be an excellent Commanding General.”

“I am very honored and humbled to assume this role in service to the Commonwealth,” said General Hogan. “I am looking forward to working again with the finest Guard in the Nation.”

General Hogan, a native of Hebron, Kentucky, formerly served as Assistant Adjutant General for the Kentucky Army National Guard. In that role, he was responsible for balancing the requirements of readiness, modernization, force structure and sustainment of the National Guard for mobilization and domestic missions. He oversaw specified units that provided wide ranging support to the National Guard’s federal and state mission sets, as well as those units that provided specialized support to civil authorities.

Most recently, General Hogan led efforts to protect the dependents of service members as the Chief Executive Officer of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission. He developed the national commission’s policies, procedures, and support to highly mobile dependents of active duty military members, ensuring level treatment with respect to education issues.

General Hogan was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Morehead State University in 1985. He earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2008. In 2010 and 2013 he completed the US Northern Command Joint Task Force Command Course and US Northern Command Joint Dual Status Commander’s Course.

General Hogan’s significant active duty assignments include tours with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 6th Infantry Division Light, Fort Richardson, Alaska; The Army Operations Center, Pentagon, Washington, District of Columbia, and Multi-National Corps Iraq, Baghdad, Iraq. When not serving on federal active duty, General Hogan served in the Kentucky Army National Guard as an active duty Guardsman with the State’s Counter-Drug Unit, from June 1993 to February 2011.

General Hogan has received the following awards and commendations: Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Commendation Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster); Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster); National Defense Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Service Star); Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with Silver Hourglass and M Device); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Master Parachutist Badge; Pathfinder Badge; Air Assault Badge; Kentucky Merit Ribbon; Kentucky Commendation Ribbon; Kentucky Service Ribbon (with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters); Kentucky State Active Duty Ribbon and the Kentucky Counter Drug Ribbon.

BG Hogan’s parents, Paul and Marilyn reside in Burlington, KY. He is the proud father of Kate, Kristen and Erin.
