Free Training For Heroin Overdose Prevention

In an effort to help citizens learn what to do in the event someone they know is experiencing a heroin or other opioid overdose, Louisville Metro Council members Pat Mulvihill (D-10) and Marianne Butler (D-15) will sponsor a free Naloxone (Narcan) training session for the public on Tuesday, January 26th.

The Council Members are collaborating with the Kentucky Harm Reduction Coalition as part of the ongoing awareness, education, and prevention for heroin/opioid overdose.

“Unfortunately, the heroin epidemic in this community has reached a crisis level.  That’s why this training is so essential.” says Mulvihill.  “If we can save a person’s life with a Naloxone injection, he or she can get into treatment and start down the road to recovery.”

The training session will take place at the Eastern Parkway Baptist Church, 601 Eastern Parkway from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

“Heroin has touched every neighborhood and most families in our community. It is important to educate yourself about the signs and symptoms of heroin and opioid use,” says Butler. “Please come – it can save a life.”

Donald Davis of the Kentucky Harm Reduction Coalition will conduct the training on Heroin/Opioid Overdose Prevention. The training will also feature the experience of Karen Johnson who will talk about how she saved her son’s life by administering Narcan.

The training will feature the following:

● Learning the signs and symptoms of heroin and opioid overdose

● Learn how to use Naloxone (Narcan) to respond to an overdose

● Each individual can register to receive a Naloxone kit
