Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that the Big Four Bridge at Waterfront Park will be lit up Saturday evening in the colors of the 2016 Kentucky Derby winner’s jockey silks.

“It’s a new Derby tradition,” the Mayor said. “The Kentucky Derby has long been a beloved symbol for our community, and the Big Four has come to be the same. It’s only fitting that we bring these two together.”

“I’ve described the lights as the ‘crown jewel’ of the Big Four project, so I think it’s perfect that we align it with the first race of the Triple Crown,” said David Karem, executive director of the Waterfront Development Corp., which oversees Waterfront Park and the Big Four for the city.

The Derby is slated to run at 6:34 p.m. Saturday, and the bridge will be lit in the winning silks colors soon after.

The Big Four, which opened in 2013, has had its own LED lighting display since February 2015. Since then, it has been a beacon for the community.
