I will not yield, To kiss the ground before young Malcolm’s feet, And to be baited with the rabble’s curse. Though Birnam Wood be come to Dunsinane, And thou opposed, being of no woman born, Yet I will try the last. Before my body I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff, And damned be him that first cries, “Hold, enough!” (Exeunt, fighting. Alarums.)
Miss Frances Moss, English teacher at Valley High School, made us memorize that snippet of Shakespeare, back in 1960. It has never left us.
So, we are naturally excited to learn that Councilman James Peden and other Metro Council members are partnering again with Kentucky Shakespeare for “Shakespeare in the Parks.” Councilman Peden has announced that Highview Park will present a free production of Macbeth on Saturday, May 9th.
Over 54 years, Kentucky Shakespeare, a not-for-profit charitable organization, professional theatre company, and the oldest free Shakespeare Festival in the United States has been offering free Shakespeare in Central Park in Old Louisville during the summer.
“Shakespeare in the Parks” will bring a 90 minute, seven actor version of Macbeth beginning at 6:00 pm at Highview Park which is located at 7201 Outer Loop, Louisville 40228. Bring the whole family. Miss Moss would like that.
